The pre-existing intersection had an offset and angled T-intersection. The project connects the offset road to the intersection via a 4-leg roundabout able to accommodate large trucks. General aspects covered within a late stage pre-opening audit that are most relevant to this project include: Visibility of the roundabout / readability; visibility through the roundabout; warning of the roundabout; sight distance at all intersection legs; signs; line marking; kerbs; islands; pedestrian safety / access; driver or pedestrian hazards; lighting; pavement; drainage; landscaping; construction related plant / materials / hazards; services.
RSA studied the traffic flow and in particular trucks, cyclists and pedestrians.
Issues were raised with tie-in line marking, approach road readability, and missing pedestrian connectivity.
