Training

RSA can train your team on issues such as road safety, traffic management, protocols for managing moving equipment using our pre-existing training modules or develop bespoke training material specific to your needs.

Optioneering

RSA is often engaged to provide optioneering expertise. Especially during project initiation or concept design, optioneering can be a valuable methodology to assessment various options taking account of issues such as safety, stakeholder issues, cost and land acquisition.

Crash Assessment and countermeasures

RSA can undertake crash assessments and analysis of specific crashes or ‘black spot’ sites. Our teams can liaise with other experts as required to undertake crash site reconstructions and detailed analysis. We can also develop mitigation solutions.

Safety Barriers

Safety barriers such as concrete barriers, guard rail, wire rope systems and energy absorbing bollards are critical for safe road infrastructure but only if they are correctly specified for the specific situation, correctly installed and maintained. RSA understand the first-principles underpinning safety barrier performance and has extensive experience with all types of barrier systems. We can review proposed barrier systems for new designs, undertake existing condition assessments of barrier systems or identified high-risk locations which would benefit from safety barriers.

Human Factors

RSA has experience undertaking Human Factors assessments of proposed or existing transport infrastructure.

The ‘Human Factors’ role in road safety describes the aspects of human behaviour which relate to the interaction between humans and their environment. In its definition of key terms, Australian Guide to Road Safety Part 6 Table A1 states: “Human Factors (road user behaviour): A technical discipline in the study of the behaviour of road users that forms an important factor in crash causation with the aim of developing effective countermeasures. Road user behaviour involves the understanding of risk taking and risk acceptance along with other behavioural functional and motivational models”.

Public transport

The team at RSA have extensive experience across all modes of public transport including airports, trains, trams and buses. We can often undertake road safety audits or DDA audits of design plans for new public transport infrastructure including pre and post opening road safety audits. We can also support public transport operators with audits or assessment of existing infrastructure.

Car Parks

RSA provides risk assessment, road safety audit and DDA audits for on-street and off-street car parks. We are often engaged by local government to undertake audits of on-street parking facilities. We also regularly work with Airports, Retirement Villages, Shopping Centre managers and Public Transports operators to undertake off-street parking audits and assessment.

Logistics, Industrial and Mining

Logistics, Industrial and Mining facilities typically have complex interactions of plant  and equipment and people, including workers and members of the public. RSA can provide advice to support the safe operation of these facilities.

Major Project Tender Assistance

RSA assists tier-1 alliances / contractors evaluate designs and construction methodologies. Typically, the client challenges assumptions or concept-design options, and suggests design and construction alternatives. RSA assesses the options and provides guidance as to whether the alternatives are consistent with current road safety and traffic engineering principles and practices, and risk assesses where relevant. Some of the common topics include intersection types, barrier type, truck haul routes, construction staging / traffic flow.

Asset Conditions Inspections

RSA carries out safety barrier conditions inspections, predominantly for councils. It does this by combining attributes of the physical properties of the barrier (condition), as well as the consistency with currently approved safety hardware (compliance), and, first principles of safety barrier design (effectiveness). RSA is increasingly using technologies and collaborations with other specialists to analyse and report utilising 3D models, A.I., and LIDAR for bridge inspection L1 and L2 reporting.
